Position Summary:
The Companion provides non-medical support, supervision, and companionship to individuals in their home environment, allowing primary caregivers a period of relief. The role focuses on enhancing the client’s quality of life by offering social interaction, engagement in daily activities, and oversight to ensure safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide companionship through conversation, social activities, games, reading, or light outings.
• Supervise clients to ensure their safety and well-being while the primary caregiver is away.
• Offer emotional support and encouragement.
• Assist with light household tasks related to the client (e.g., preparing simple meals/snacks, tidying common areas, laundry).
• Support client with daily routines such as reminders for medications (no administration), hydration, mobility encouragement, and personal interests.
• Monitor and report changes in the client’s condition or behavior to the caregiver or supervisor.
• Follow the care plan as directed by the agency/family.
• Maintain client confidentiality and respect dignity at all times.

Requirements:

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous experience as a companion, caregiver, or in customer service/human services preferred.
• Training in caregiving, aging, or working with individuals with disabilities is a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Patience, empathy, and ability to engage with older adults or individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to observe and report changes accurately.
• Dependable, trustworthy, and professional.
• Capable of light household duties and maintaining a safe environment.

Other Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if transportation of client is required).
• Ability to pass background checks, reference checks, and (if required) drug screening.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred (may be required by some agencies).
• Physical ability to assist with light mobility support (bending, standing, walking).
